Going up from the seaside to the hillside and the mountains, you can discover the genuine gastronomic traditions with its ancient flavours, strictly linked to the local production of raw materials.

Besides its art treasures, the Piceno area is rich in enogastronomic specialities, renowned and much appreciated all over the world.

From the large variety of olive groves, cultivated on the hillsides, derives the green olives, among which the delicious tender ascolana variety that was mentioned by the latin poet Plinio in his Naturalis Historia and the excellent Olive oil;

The fruits are produced and transformed into jams in the Valdaso area;  the products of wood coming from the Sibillini and Laga mountains, among which chestnuts, mushrooms and truffles; cheese and salami are still produced locally; The local wines bearing the DOC trade mark, the Falerio and the Rosso Piceno Superiore; finally the liquors: the famous Anisetta Meletti, the Mistrà and the traditional vino cotto (a particular type of local wine that accompanies the dessert).

In some selected restaurants and farmhouses you will  be able to taste the traditional recipes of the local cuisine, such as the famous olive ascolane, the Campofilone handmade pasta, the fish soup, and the seasonal cakes.

 

 

THE “ROSSO PICENO” RED WINE ROUTE

The local wine production offers Rosso Piceno produced in a vast area of the southern Marches and Rosso Piceno Superiore, characterized by a complex and rich bouquet, that is produced in a smaller area of the Piceno.

 

 

 

 

THE OLIVE OIL ROUTES

The production of olives in our area is also renowned on a national basis, thanks to the varieties Ascolana tenera, semitenera and dura.

There is also a remarkable production of an excellent olive oil, which derives from the large number of olive trees in the area. The oil produced in the inner areas are generally more flavoured and spicy than those produced along the cost, that are sweeter and with a less intense flavour.

 

THE GOLD ON THE TABLE: THE PRECIOUS MUSHROOMS AND TRUFFLES

The vast woodlands near the mountains are an ideal environment for the precious white and black truffles.
The specialities made with these renowned products can be tasted in many restaurants in the area.
