City of pre-historic origin whose origin date to the neo-eneolithic age. the first settlement was established by people coming from the mediterranean.

According to the ancient latin poets the city was founded by the sabini after a ritual migration called primavera sacra. they were guide by a woodpecker - a bird sacred to Mars - and for this reason they were called Piceni.

Protected by two rivers on three sides the town has a gorgeous historical centre entirely built up with the travertine stone which holds important sites dating both to the roman, medieval and reinassance period.

The two main attractions are piazza arringo and piazza del popolo, the two "lounges" and locations of the most important events.
