INFERNACCIO GORGE Enclosed within the steep rocky slopes of the Sibilla mountain and the Priora mountain, it’s the most spectacular rocky valley of the Sibillini. Once you have crossed the gorge made of massive limestone walls, you’ll go through the S.Leonardo beech wood, a habitat with specific micro-climate characteristics and you’ll reach the wide highplane of Capotenna where are located the springs of the Tenna river. From that point you’ll enjoy a beautiful view on the whole valley.
THE WHEAT ROAD You’ll walk along part of the large ring of the Sibillini in a southerly; leaving on your right side the eastern slope of the Vettore mountains (Banditello, Prata, Torrone), you’ll get to a nice plan located between a pinewood (left side) and the lower woods of the Torrone and Banditello mountains, from which you’ll enjoy a nice panoramic view. Then you’ll arrive to the Sacred Spring (1159 meters altitude) from which you’ll walk through the steep but short path to the Romanesque church of S. Maria in Pantano (8th century aD) one of the most ancient of this period. This tour covers a little part of the ancient reapers path, which linked the Aso valley to the Castelluccio highplane crossing Vallegrascia, Colle Galluccio and Forca di Presta. This historical path was used by farmers who emigrated on a seasonal bases during the period of reaping, from Marches region hillside towards the Tyrrenic area countryside.
THE PATH OF THE MILLSTONE AND WORSHIPPING MONTEGALLO Departing from the path near the bridge on the Fluvione river; walking along to the river bank you’ll reach the church of S. Croce in the little village of Interprete. During the journey you can see two unused millstones, still in good conditions. Along the river you’ll notice the typical vegetation growing by the riverside and a lot of nut, chestnut and hazelnut. Continuing towards the village of Colle you’ll reach the church of S. Maria in Pantano, also called alle Sibille.
FROM SHELTER TO SHELTER Departing from Forca di Presta, a nice panoramic point of view at 1400 metres of altitude where you can see the west side of the Vettore mountain, part of the Castelluccio highplane and the nearby Laga mountains on the opposite side. Walking along this path you’ll reach the village of Forca Canapine.
